A broad cross section of the Glen Cove community – including public officials, business and civic leaders, and residents – came together today to celebrate the grand opening of the Garvies Point Welcome Center, the first component of the $1 billion plan to reclaim 60 acres of the city’s waterfront.
Located at 49 Herb Hill Road near what will be a key entryway to the site, the Welcome Center represents the first permanent presence in Glen Cove for the project’s developer, RXR.
“After many years of preparation and planning, today marks an important milestone as we celebrate the opening of the Garvies Point Welcome Center,” said Scott Rechler, chairman and chief executive officer of RXR Realty, which is headquartered in Uniondale. “This beautiful facility now serves as a daily presence for us here on the waterfront. As a Long Islander who spent much of my childhood years right here in Glen Cove, I am grateful for all of the support our vision for this site has received from the City, local businesses, community organizations, civic leaders and residents. The Garvies Point Welcome Center will provide the community with another outlet to stay involved in this exciting project. I look forward to working together to reclaim and activate the waterfront for the people of Glen Cove.”
“I must commend RXR on the outstanding job they did on the Garvies Point Welcome Center. This center was renovated using the extraordinary talents of our local Glen Cove residents and businesses – from Studio Grella to Maccarone Plumbing – and that’s why this project is so important to the City of Glen Cove,” said Mayor Spinello. “The strength of a smart public-private partnership is based on creating new business opportunities and jobs to support Glen Cove’s economic growth and the Welcome Center is an important step forward for our community.”
The Garvies Point Welcome Center is intended to provide key information to stakeholders throughout the project’s development via interactive displays, a scale model of the plan and other media. In addition to its multi-media displays, the Welcome Center also will host information sessions, community meetings and other events where local residents and stakeholders can gather information and updates on the project and its progress.
The welcome center is located at 49 Herb Hill Road, Glen Cove, NY 11542.
We welcome you to make an appointment to visit the welcome center.
